Don’t miss these 5 holiday Markets and Pop-ups!

I am a big proponent of buying local, especially around the holidays. Vancouver is bursting at the seams with talent from beautifully curated shops laden with locally produced wares, markets featuring independent food and craft makers, or pop-up shops showcasing skilled artisans, so there is no shortage of thoughtful gifts to find for anyone on your shopping list. I’ve put together a list of the ones we’ll be going to, and also highlighted some of our most favourite vendors you MUST check out. I’m urging you all to not miss these amazing markets and pop-up shops around the city in the next few days, and if you see us there, come over and say hello!

#PortageShop pop up

434 Columbia Street, Vancouver

Nov 24-30, 2014; 11am-7pm

We’re heading to this pop-up tonight. Set up in a Pacific Northwest Cabin, its vendor list is a carefully curated list of the best local designers and creators in the city. I will be heading straight for Emily and Kate of Plenty + Spare to pick up my favourite woodsman soaps and lavendar & bergamot dry shampoo – don’t miss this table! Portage is produced by two local makers and designers who love the aesthetic of the Pacific Northwest, AW by Andrea Wong and MH by Melanie Hull.

Other Vancouver Market

163 East Pender Street, Vancouver

Nov 28-30; 10am – 8pm

Other Vancouver showcases independent designers and artists that support mindful consumerism. Tonight is their opening party, complete with a DJ, drinks, and shopping. I am particularly excited about Jacqueline Klassen’s dreamy ceramic creations – I went down a rabbit hole the other day on her lovely site, and now I can’t wait to see her work in person. I have a soft spot for quality ceramics!

Strathcona Winter Craft Fair

601 Keefer Street, Vancouver

Saturday, Nov 29th, 10am-4pm

Strathcona is a wonderful area to travel to, with a high concentration of artists and artisans, and a deep community feel. This craft fair will have everything from jewelry, cozy knitted goods, and delicious food and drink. Remember Natalie? Well she’ll be there with some new flavours of her mouth-watering jams – perfect timing too because I just scraped the bottom of my jar of my Monsieur Hopricot!

Make-It Vancouver

The PNE Forum, 2901 East Hastings Street, Vancouver

Dec 4-5, 11am-9pm; Dec 6, 10am-7pm; Dec 7, 11am-5pm

Kids 12 & under are free

This is a larger market that features makers from all over Canada, and will be bustling and busy for four days next week. There will be food carts, music, a licensed bar and even a market just for kids. Our incredibly talented friend Sonia of Woodlot will be there with her divinely scented handmade coconut wax candles – don’t miss this table! I’ll be there stocking up (yes I just blew my friends’ Christmas surprises, sorry!).

Got Craft?

Maritime Labour Centre, 1880 Triumph Street, Vancouver

Dec 13-14, 10am-5pm

This is another big indie market filled with more than enough things to stuff the stockings and bury the tree with. I am patiently waiting to get my hands on Diana and Erica’s adorable (and awesome) magnetic bookmarks. This duo from craft’ed create themed bookmarks from Harry Potter to Adventure Time, and all of them are so cute that my Finn will be squealing when she pulls them out of her stocking.

Need to review this list quickly? Here’s a fun slideshow to keep track of them all! Happy shopping!!
