Experience Vancouver – The Hot Chocolate Festival Edition

This was a delicious post to prepare. The Hot Chocolate Festival is going on right now and if you want to get out and experience some of the best cafe’s in Vancouver, I’d recommend hitting up a few of the participating vendors to try their signature chocolate beverages.

The festival is not just a good excuse to drink hot chocolate, it’s also a fundraiser for the Downtown Eastside Women’s job training program of the PHS Community Services Society and East Van Roasters.

On Sunday my little family took a bike ride to our all time favourite sweet shop, Earnest Ice Cream (Quebec St. location). I tried their Hot Chocolate Festival feature, Molton dark drinking chocolate poured over Tahitian vanilla ice cream served with a house made salted chocolate rye cookie. It was fantastic. My daughter stuck with her favourite, a bowl of salted caramel ice cream 🙂

This afternoon I hit up 49th Parallel (Main St. location) with my husband and we tried their features, “hazelnut milk hot chocolate topped with dark cocoa powder and latte art served with hazelnut amaretti and a hazelnut truffle” and “Dark chocolate infused with lavender syrup, topped with steamed milk and a honey marshmallow. Served with a honey/lavender biscotti.” Both were quite lovely. The dark chocolate and lavender hot chocolate was quite sweet.

I would also highly recommend East Van Roasters, Mink, and Railtown Cafe. To see a full list of participating cafe’s, visit this page.

There are 25 participating vendors, spanning over 30 days, and showcasing 59 flavours of hot chocolate!
